Short introduction

No one can get past Thor, the hammer-wielding god superhero from the Marvel universe. But actor Chris Hemsworth can do much more than just knock on the head.

Early life

Christopher Bruce “Chris” Hemsworth was born in Melbourne, Australia in the summer of 1983. He has European roots, so his ancestors come from Germany and Great Britain. Hemsworth grew up with two brothers, Luke and Liam, who also act as actors. Liam Hemsworth is best known from “Hunger Games”, while the older brother Luke mostly plays in Australian productions such as the “Neighbors” series.

First, Chris Hemsworth just got small television roles in Australian series. After having always had a great love for the sea and especially for surfing, he finally played surfer Kim in “Home and Away” for three years from 2004. After this national breakthrough, Hemsworth made his way to the United States. In the meantime, he has gained enough worldwide fame to be able to live in Australia again with his wife and children, a daughter and twin sons.

Career

In 2009, Chris Hemsworth began to appear in US films. He played James Kirk’s father in Star Trek and starred in the horror film The Cabin in the Woods, which was only released in 2011. This year he also got his most important and best-known role: the superhero god Thor in the film of the same name. Before he got this role, he was still quite unknown – afterwards Hemsworth became a megastar almost overnight and was allowed to play Thor in all sequels.

From this point on, there were hail of offers for the young actor. In 2012 he played the male title role in “Snow White and the Huntsman” and also took it over in the sequel. In 2013 he took on the role of racing driver James Hunt in “Rush”. This was followed by numerous other films, many of which belonged to the Marvel universe. Hemsworth has also been a director of some of the Avengers films and is currently trying to be a producer.

Career highlights

Chris Hemsworth’s greatest success was definitely the role of Thor. His humorous, powerful portrayal of the god of thunder only melted the audience away. And so Hemsworth became a permanent member of the Avengers and played his role in nine films so far.

Hemsworth also gained great recognition in 2012 with “Snow White and the Huntsman”. In this film, as well as his successor “The Huntsman and the Ice Queen” from 2016, he played the hunter Eric alongside stars like Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.

When playing well-trained swarm roles with strength and wit, Chris Hemsworth is obviously so good that there is no better one: In 2014, the magazine “People” awarded him the title of Sexiest Man Alive. Hemsworth has also been a member of AMPAS, the organization that awards the Oscars, since 2017.
