36-Hour Blackout In Chandigarh, Water Supply, Hospitals, Traffic Lights Hit
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh section has been left without electricity and water for more than 36 hours in a large blackout after a three-day strike by electrical workers. Thousands of houses have power and water supply since Monday night and traffic lights do not work in many areas in one of the most famous cities in India.
Administration has been, in court, accusing workers to attack “sabotage actions”.
Government hospitals have been forced to reschedule many operations.
“We have a backup plan like we have a generator. But you cannot enter 100 percent hospitals in the generator. So, we have to reschedule or postpone planned operations,” said Director of Health Services Chandigarh Susan Singh to the PTI news agency.
Power cuts have also turned off online classes and train institutions in the Union area located about four hours from Delhi.
Electric workers protest the privatization of the electricity department. Union Dharam Pal advisor held a meeting with the Powermen union to convince them to call on strike, but there was no resolution so far.

On Tuesday night, the Chandigarh administration enacted an important service maintenance law, prohibiting strikes by the Department of Electricity for six months.
Chandigarh administrative officials claimed that they had made arrangements to maintain the power supply, but residents and traders in many city areas complained about blackouts. Power cutting also achieves industrial production and manufacturing in several units in the city.
