An Indonesian woman claims that she falls in love with marriage fraud after finding her husband 10 months is actually a con artist.
The woman shared her story on social media after her court case made national news in Indonesia. According to The Sun, this happened after the defendant – identified by the initials AA – appeared before the Jambi District Court on Tuesday, June 14.
The woman, who used the initials NA in a court submission, claimed that she was expelled from IDR 300 million (around Rs 15 Lakh) after she fits the scammer on the dating application in May 2021.
AA is allegedly claimed to be a surgeon and coal entrepreneur trained by US. Both of them formed a relationship and married three months later in the Siri marriage ceremony, which literally translated into a secret marriage. Such marriage is not legally registered but recognized by religion. Both cannot have a marriage approved by the state because AA cannot produce the necessary documents.
The newlyweds lived in Na’s parents’ house for several months after the wedding. However, the bride’s parents immediately became suspicious because AA could not produce evidence of being an entrepreneur or surgeon, and continued to ask for money from them.
Meanwhile, friends and AA families support their claims, as if they were in fraud.
To avoid suspicion, AA brought Na to Lahat, South Sumatra, after a few months, where he was then locked to a house and was prohibited from interacting with anyone, reporting Coconuts Jakarta. Na said ‘her husband’ controlled his finances and even tried to kill him by asking him to jump into the river, knowing very well he did not know how to swim.
In April, Mrs. Na and Jambi police managed to track the couple. What happened later had become global headlines.
During the police interview, AA was declared a woman – more specifically a female artist who used the initials EY.
On social media, NA reportedly discussed the common questions he continued to receive, claiming that ‘her husband’ always turned off the lights and closed his eyes before having sex.
The victim’s parents reported EY to the authorities and traces in this case were ongoing.
