CBSE to restore single board exams format next academic year
The Central Secondary Education Board (CBSE) has decided to restore the pre-pandemic single test format from the next academic year, which means that the X and XII Council’s examinations will not be divided into two parts, according to sources at the Ministry of Education.
For the academic year 2021-22, CBSE has introduced a branched format with two terms: The term council test was held in November-December last year, while the II-II exam was scheduled to begin on April 26. It knows that more batteries will be given to the term test II.
The decision was taken after the council exam for the 2020-21 academic year must be canceled because of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. Students are evaluated on their scores in the previous exam, practical exams and internal assessments.
According to senior officials, the Board decided to restore a single test pattern after receiving a representation from the school. “CBSE never announced that the test format of the two terms will be continued for the next. It is a one-time formula. Now the school is functioning in full capacity, decision, for now it is to stick to the test format once,” the official said.
However, in terms of syllabus rationalization, CBSE will hold on to the policy followed over the past two years when the syllabus decreases 30 percent. “NCERT will send detailed rationalization based on which announcement to be made. The school can teach the reduced syllabus using existing books,” the official said.
The 2020 National Education Policy (NEP) proposes that all students are allowed to take the council exam for two occasions in the academic year – “One major examination and one for improvement” to “eliminate high betting aspects of the board exam”.
